    Competitive and Fun

Caddington Cricket Club field two senior league sides, competing in the Four Counties Cricket League primarily across the counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The first XI currently play in division three, with the second in division six. Both teams performed well in the 2013 season finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively.

Both teams contain a diverse mix of players, in terms of age and ethnic background and, at Caddington, we aim to be a progressive and inclusive club open to all. We are also proud to say that we have featured a number of female cricketers in our league sides.

We are fully committed to developing young cricketers, in fact a good number of our established players have progressed through our youth system. We also have a crop of promising youngsters on the fringes of our league teams for the coming season.  Although as a club we are motivated to being as competitive as we possibly can, we would also like to think that our league sides play with a healthy respect for the opposition and with a sense of fun and enjoyment.

Senior league matches take place on Saturday afternoons (1:30pm start) from late April until early September. The matches are 44 overs per side, with the team batting second gaining any overs not used by the team batting first. The victor scores 30 points for a win batting first and 25 for a win batting second. The losing side pick up points for runs scored and wickets taken. The side bowling second must bowl the opposition out to win the match, otherwise the points are shared and are weighted in favour of the bowling side, to varying amounts dependant on certain factors.

Divisons generally consist of 10 teams, meaning that there are 18 league fixtures over the course of the season, with two teams promoted and relegated from the division each year. In 2013 our second XI gained promotion, with the first XI just missing out on the last game of the season.  Both have consolidated their positions in 2014.

If you decide to join the club on a ‘pay as you play’ basis, the cost of league cricket is £10 per match. We offer the option of paying a one off all inclusive fee prior to the beginning of each season (£120 for the 2014 season) which covers all forms of cricket for the period, and provides great value.

We are always on the lookout for new players so if you are interested in playing for Caddington, whether that be league, or friendly cricket, and no matter what your ability, why not get in touch using the contact from below, and we will get back to you with further details. Alternatively, why not pop down to one of our training sessions and introduce yourself.
