I hope that you all had a very happy Christmas and New Year, and now that 2016 is upon us and it’s already late January the new season will be upon us before we know it, it’s a good time to update you on a few things.

New Committee Elected:

In November the club held it’s AGM, where the old committee was dissolved and a new one voted in.  Farhan Ulhaq, Jay Shah and Raj Arimelli joined existing members Dale Skeath, Gary Norman, Carl Beddard, Ghaf Shabir, Alan Crump, Mark Rich, Omar Shah and Robbie Cooper on the new committee with Drew Glenister, Lee Mark, Anees Razzak and Paul Simpson stepping down.  The committee would like to thank the Drew, Lee, Anees and Paul for all of their work over the past year/years and hope that they continue to play a big part for the club on the field in the coming seasons.  Details of the make-up of the new committee can be found here.

Priorities for the Coming Season:

After a somewhat disappointing year on the field in 2015, the committee has decided that main focus for this year is for the 1st team to compete for immediate promotion back to division 3, and for thepoweroll-club-1 2nd team to continue to give the younger players experience, whilst also trying to compete in division 6.  Off the field the committee are aiming to bring in the necessary funds to purchase a roller and also to work towards providing a decent artificial surface, allowing net practice to take place at the club in future.  We are also actively seeking sponsors and hope to have some advertising banners at the ground for the coming season.  If you know anyone who may be interested in advertising with us, please let us know.

Sunday and Midweek Cricket:

1441318442_0The Sunday and midweek schedule for the coming season is complete (bar one Sunday fixture in June), and in addition to eight Wednesday T20’s, we have also entered a team into this year’s Viegli T20 Cup, which will be a knockout competition and offers £1000 for the winning team.  We have also arranged an inter-club warm up match on the 17th of April at Shefford CC (subject to weather and the go-ahead from the groundsman), which will allow our league captains to assess the strength of their teams and give individuals the opportunity to push for a starting spot when the league starts on the 30th.

kyleThe committee are pleased to announce that Kyle Blaney has been appointed as Sunday captain for 2016.  After a very prolific year with both bat and ball on Sundays in 2015 (taking home most of the Sunday awards!!), we feel sure that Kyle will continue his success as skipper.  Good luck Kyle!!  We are currently still looking for a midweek captain, so if you are interested please let us know.

Winter Nets:

Winter nets start at Denbigh High School on Sundays between 3pm and 5pm from the 7th of February.  The cost this year is £4, but as the session is now a two hour one witMonday Night Nets - 30-03-2015h organised training and fielding drills in the first hour and four lane netting in the second hour, complete with a net exclusively for the bowling machine, we feel that this represents excellent value and hope that players will benefit from the extra lanes by having longer to practice both their bowling, batting and fielding.  We look forward to seeing you there!!

That’s about all for now, except to let you know that the league captains will be selected this evening and you will be informed of our decision shortly afterwards.  We look forward to seeing you all either at nets or when the season starts in earnest, and we hope that 2016 will be a successful year for all of us!!
